After The Fall Essay, Research Paper

After the Fall

Arthur Miller has written many great dramas in his life, such as A Position from the

Bridge, Death of a Salesman, The Misfits, The Crucible, and After the Fall. Out of all his

dramas it is said that After the Fall is the darkest plays he has written. I believe that this is a

true statement, and that the grounds this is his darkest drama is because it deals with his inner

feelings on thing that he had to cover with in his life.

The certain facets that he touched in this drama are his matrimony with Marilyn

Monroe, who was a great actress in her clip. Marilyn is portrayed though the character

Maggie who is a really guiltless miss who, like Marilyn, was looked at chiefly as a sex

symbol. After the Fall besides deals with Glenn millers brush with governments over communism in

the 50? s. To depict this construct Miller describes himself as a attorney who is supporting an

old friend who is being threaded as being a Communist or portraying communistic thoughts in

his latest book.

Though out the drama the chief character, Quentin deals with his relationships with

adult females. Two of the adult females who play really of import functions are his married woman Louise, and his

female parent, Rose. Lousie tries to interrupt out of the traditional thought that the married woman is at that place to merely

cook, clean, take attention of both the kids and the hubby, and be what is portrayed to

me as a automaton, where she does non hold any ideas of her ain. Rose is what every

Judaic female parent is described as. She is seen as a strong adult female, has a batch of say in what is

traveling on, seems to hold an icy touch when covering with certain people, but is ever

seeking to look on the good side of things. His female parent is the ideal adult female who Quentin

holds every other adult female in his life up to.

The back unit of ammunition of most of the drama is set in the early 1950 during the McCarthy

tests. By 1950 the senate was in an epoch of anti-Communist craze. Senator Joseph

McCarthy launched a series of extremely publicized probes in the State Department,

Hollywood, and even the U.S. Army. This was intend to root out Communism. The

aggressive onslaughts that McCarthy launched lead to a broad spread fright and intuition

though many sectors of American society. Since McCarthy had small grounds to endorse his

claims up McCarthy fell into disfavour. In 1954 he was censured by the Senate for mistreating

his authorization.
