Chapter 4Analysisand Interpretation4.1.Organization of the chapterInthis chapter, researcher analysed the data using both qualitative andquantitative method. The data is collected using littered scale and results areinterpreted using graphs for the modules.

Data analysed as three phase.4.2 Evaluation of the teachingModulesPhase1: Feedback of the TeachingModule            The researcher developed tenteaching modules for the second language Tamil teachers in grade six Sinhalamedium schools in Sri Lanka.  Accordingto the content of modules it’s divided into frames. There were 35 framesincluded in the modules.

Thetopic of module number one is letters.There are 12 vowel and 18 consonant include in Tamil language and in thismodule describe about these 30 letters and one special letter named “AyudaEluththu”. Furthermore one song about vowel include in this module and twovideo clip also included. These video clips teach to students the correctmethods of writing letters.  Themodule number two explains the combine letters (the combination of vowels andconsonant can be intergrades as combined letters).the researchers introduced216 combined letters and to understand the correct methods of writing Patton.The researcher used 10 video clips and one power point presentation and the endof this module student should be write and identify 247 (vowel 12 + Specialletter 1 + consonant 18 + combined letters 216=247) letters correctly.Thethird module researcher used introduced the primary grammar lesson about partsof nouns.

It’s very important grammar lesson because it specify for the Tamillanguage. Moreover name of family members also included in this module and twopower point presentations were used. Themodule number four researcher used to teach some nouns. There were ten names ofanimals, bird and colours collaborated with two power point presentations.

Fromthe fifth Module researcher described about the wh-words questionforms. It s impotent to improve student’s speaking skills. Using three powerpoint presentations researcher explained the functions and example sentencesfor wh-words question. Themodule number six entitle as numbers. It’s included number name of one to tenin Tamil language and name of ten vegetables and fruits. Further the researcherused a number song and power point presentation (Dialog of fair) to moveimprove the number and provide the communication skills.   Themodule number seven define about singular and plural.

The researcher used twopower point presentations to simplify the rules.Fromthe module number eight researchers introduced ten verbs. In this moduleresearcher explained about the regulations of verb and gender suffix. It isdifficult grammar lesson in included in Tamil text. Therefore researcher usedfive power point presentations and one video clip to simplify the lesson.  Theresearcher used module number nine and ten for enhance the concept of peace andamong the students. In module nine described about the one of Tamil festivaland module number ten showed a story of Dr. Abul kalam (A Lesson for myteacher).

Furthermore both modules included more activities for improve thewriting and speak skills and used three video clips and one power pointpresentations.   Theinitial draft of the module and DVD submitted to the six experts three fromIndia and three from Sri Lanka. After examined the module and DVD the modelswere validated by six experts. They had validated 10 modules and found themodules were relevant and would be easy to teach Tamil to class six in SriLanka as the teachers are familiar with Sinhala language.  Experts gave some feedback and modules weremodified as they suggested. Majority of experts believed that these modules wererelevant.

After the modification the modules were sent to Sri Lanka and 30teachers were trained using DVDs and through modules.   Phase2: Teaching and training the teachersThedata were analysed by using quantitative analysis from feedback form .Researcherintroduced and trained the modules to 30 teachers who teach-in Tamil as asecond language in grade 6 Sinhala schools in Sri Lanka. The training programwas run for 16 hours in three days through the Skype in national institute ofeducation Sri Lanka. Regular Tamil coordinator helped to conduct the programand she managed technical issue also. After the program they filled feedbackform. The feedback forms included 18 questions, questions divided into threeparts named Evaluation of training material (modules and DVD), evaluation oftraining and Visualization ofthe Role after Training. The 18th question remarked week points and strongpoint.

 Thetables and figures given below illustrate the quantitative analysis of moduleand DVD. The feedback forms of teaching training programme divided into threeparts. The table and figure given below represent the evaluation of thetraining material (modules and DVD).

According toresult modules and DVD is suitable to teaching material for teaching secondlanguage Tamil in grade six Sinhala school Sri Lanka.            Asa second part of evaluation the researcher evaluate theteaching training programme. It shows blue for excellent,red for good and green for average. According to chart 50% teacher’s vote thetraining programme is excellent and 44% teacher’s is good.  The majority of teachers agreed the trainingprogramme is very useful for the teachers and so that the teaching martial(module and DVD) which researcher developed are very important to teachingsecond language Tamil in grade six Sinhala school Sri Lanka and they prefer touse.              Inthird part the researcher evaluate the visualization of teaching role after theTraining. Majority of teacher’sopinion is training programme is very effective for them and the role ofteaching after the training shows 64% excellent and 27% teacher’s opinion isgood.            Theeighteenth question of feedback form is included as open ended question type.The researcher used it to identify the strong points and weak points. Time will be not enough for teaching module in the classroom. The training program was very effective. Some pictures included in the DVD are not clear and suitable. The songs included in DVD are perfect.

  The activities included in modules are very useful for teachers.               The three charts described the evaluation oftraining material (modules and DVD), evaluation of training and Visualization of the Role after Training. Thesummarizing of main opinion the teaching materials are very effective for teachinglearning and researcher developed teaching materials (module and DVD) aresuitable for teaching second language Tamil in grade six Sinhala school SriLanka.Phase3: Try out modules in school            Afterthe training the researcher three modules send to the Sri Lanka to try out inthe classroom. The researcher chose module number 1, 7 and 10 and five teacherswere participated.

After the finished teaching of teaching module the teachershad given their feedback and the data were analysed by using qualitativeanalysis. The data is analysedusing question wise. Each module has 11 questions and data is analysed by usinggraphs. The analyses were described under three steps.  First step Analysis of module number one Inthis step researcher explain the quality of modules is using feedbackquestions. There are five second language Tamil teachers participated in gradesix Sinhala medium schools in Sri Lanka.Figure4Graph 4.4Showsthe percentage (approx) Content of the module is suitable for the target groupof learners (Grade 6)The chart shows percentage distribution ofthe Content of themodule is suitable for the target group of learners (Grade 6).

According to data the result shows that 80%of Experts opinions Excellent about the Content of the module is suitablefor the target group of learners (Grade 6) of modules as they believed it helped them in teachingwith DVDs was easy as students could relate to it and understand much better .They showed their satisfaction as 20% good as they believed more teaching aideswould help them in teaching in class more interactive.Figure5 Graph4.5showsthe percentage (approx) of Clarity in Learning objectivesand Learning outcomes The data describe the result about the clarity inlearning objectives and learning outcomes of modules shows that 60% of Experts opinions Excellentand 40% expert given as good. It says that 60% teachers prefer as excellent and 40% teachers preferas good. The dataillustrate that 60% teachers shows as excellent and 40% teachers were good. Teachers are interest touse new teaching martial and they prefer to participate in training programs.

The teachers who tryout in the schools also satisfied about module and DVD,Finally, summaries of all statement the modules and DVD perfect and successful.It can be used to teachers to teach second language Tamil in Sinhala School inSri Lanka. All These details clarify teaching modules and DVD whichresearcher developed is Very effective.
