Critical thinking involves the ability to question, reason, actively listen and apply sound judgment and evidence while recognizing logical fallacies (Paul et al). Critical thinking must be fostered as a first step in producing thoughtful and informed students. It is also be a precondition for being able to successfully navigate the transition from the college to the world beyond and the development of a worldview .Too many people are taken advantage because of their lack of critical thinking, logic and deductive reasoning. Without these skills we create the whole generation as a clueless people. Critical thinking is still largely understood as being consistent with developing the life of the mind. In short the relationship between the developing the life of the mind involving critical thought and the achievement of core learning objectives are subject to institutional expectations , interpretation, course content and context. That being said, we should still strive to outline as clearly as possible what we mean by critical thinking.
We often find critical thinking to be a difficult task because it differs educationally from finding a single right answer. As a student critical thinking doesn’t seem to get anywhere. It should be find as a time consuming and confusing, especially when there are several options from which to choose because our society encourages forward progress and quick fixes so that critical thinking requires back self critically from the task itself to determine the best course of action that student may struggle while thinking critically. Critical thinking requires us to stretch intellectually and psychologically, possibly taking two steps back before taking back one forward (Bower 2003). It also requires to dig and take apart of decision making and justifies actions. In addition to articulating accomplishment, critical thinking also focuses on how the process itself has progressed, mechanically and intellectually. Critical thinking is a habit of mind characterized by the comprehensive exploration of issues, ideas, artifacts, and events before accepting or formulating an opinion or conclusion (Rhodes, 2010). Critical thinking is a result of reflecting on one’s learning and developing meta-awareness by “reflecting on one’s thoughts, feelings and actions” (Taylor, 1992). Learning critical thinking should take place in an environment of thinking, reflecting, and connecting to the world in order to have skills that facilitate success in environment, critical thinking plays an important role in the world environment in cooperative reasoning and constructive tasks (Mezirow, 1990). The ability to think clearly and rationally is important whatever we choose to do because being able to think well and solve problems systematically is an asset for any career. To come up with a creative solution to a problem involves not just having new ideas. It must also be the case that the new ideas being generated are useful and relevant to the task at hand. Critical thinking plays a crucial role in evaluating new ideas, selecting the best ones and modifying them if necessary. In order to live a meaningful life and to structure our lives accordingly, we need to justify and reflect on our values and decisions. Critical thinking provides the tools for this process. Critical Thinking enhance our academic performance cause this is one of the criteria for success in College the ability to think independently while being logical at the same time it should knows how to separate facts from opinions, how to examine an issue from all sides, how to make rational inferences and how to withhold personal judgment or biases. Those who lack critical thinking skills often assume that everything they hear is true, regardless of the source because a true critical thinker consider all options before they act and has the self-awareness to know the difference between a rational thought based on careful consideration and an emotional response based on personal bias. Emotion is the enemy of reason. By understanding your own perspective, you can also consider the perspective of others and come to a conclusion based on fact, not feelings
So in overall learning, critical thinking as I understand it, we acquire a means of assessing and upgrading our ability to judge well. It enables us to go virtually any situation and to figure out the logic of whatever is happening in the situation. The ability to think critically is an important trait of all members of our society. For me thinking critically must be focus of higher education in order to provide the intellectual training like us student to participate in this world. It provide a way for us to learn from new experiences through the process of continual self assessment it also enables us to sound beliefs and judgment and in doing so, it provides us with basis for a rational and reasonable emotional life. Clearly, from the above, it is evident that critical thinking is beneficial for everyone and can contribute aspect in life.
