Scott St.305/31211-20-2017Chicago, IL.1069 Words.Before I start this paper, I must acknowledge the people who helped me along the way, most of them being my family My Dad was one of the most helpfuls, and he did so much for me He drove me to Walgreens to buy printer paper, and he purchased the weight set, and he helped me make my wooden apparatus, And I could never forget my aunt and my mom, who were the ones who helped me with actually doing the experiment, and using the big clamps, because I’m not strong enough, and they also helped me with moral support and just being there for me.When I was think of a topic to make this project about, I wanted to do something that could be fun, useful, and get an amazing grade So I thought of this, which would give me good grades and give me valuable insights into how friction and paper works, and the properties of friction But what I really wanted to know, and to get out of this, was is there a linear relationship between the amount of paper layered and the amount of weight it can hold due to friction? My Hypothesis was that the paper WILL not have a linear relationship, but it would rather go up exponentially. Looking back at this, i now think that it could be linear or exponential, I didn’t gather enough data in my opinion to make an accurate statement about the friction of paper and whete it will or will not have a linear or exponential relationship.From my research, I have been lead to believe that the higher amount of weight of the paper, the more coarse the paper is, but we are not using different weights of paper, so I think that the coarser the material the more it will hold, so we can assume that the 20lb paper we are using will hold less weight than something like cardstock, but i do think that the weight held will increase exponentially, because you are quadrupling the area of friction when you go from 5 to 10 sheets or something like that, and the weights that we orders could not even begin to budge the 10 sheets of paper, and I think that the wood supporting them would have broken before the paper did, honestly So I then shortened it to 5,6,7,8, and 9, and I could then get the experiment done way quicker and did not fail my research paper and got an A (wink wink nudge nudge) I also now know that paper is a very strong substance and can withhold very much pressure due to the properties of friction. Layer 3 sheets, and then clap them to the apparatus like so3. Note the amount of sheets of paper, amount of grams held, your prediction, and the residual4 Repeat steps 2 and 3 for 5,6,7,8 and 9 sheets of paper5 Be sure to write down your data every step of the way                  DATAThe first amount of paper I tested was only 3 flimsy sheets, and they supported nothing Then I tried how five, which I must say, really blew me away, I really thought that it would not hold that much, as it was very flimsy, but what blew my initial expectations out of the water was number six. Adding only one sheet of paper could make it hold an additional 185 grams, which was really amazing to me. 7 Sheets of paper only held 11 more, or 211, grams more than the 6 papers, although I think that this could have been an outlier, or fluke This project could be used by Architects who need to know if friction will hold in a building, and they could also use this to know if copy machines will jam or ATMs. There are companies that make boxes for food companies, and if when in the production line, something goes wrong and it is the boxes fault, the company that made the boxes must legally pay the food company for the lost time that they discoveredI really did learn a lot from this science fair project I learned that I have an extreme procrastination ethic, and I also learned some GREAT ways to help myself with my homework and among other things grew as a person I also can now say that I have a basic understanding of how friction works and the properties of friction In Conclusion, I think that this science fair experiment was a great way from me to learn about the properties of friction, and to make conclusions of how this relationship works All in all, this was an experiment that will change my life, and I have learned many things from this, and on of them is the value of not procrastinating my paper and my experiment until the end of the week that I had to do it! This project was a great one for me, as I learned many lessons, one of them being to not procrastinate doing your experiment until 2 weeks after it was due, and to learn how to schedule myself.                         BibliographyInstron.
