Exercise 1, pages 14-15 In many people’s minds, modern video games are often associated with negative effects on children’s behavior and mental health. They see computer games as a stimulant for aggression and violence that prevents young gamers from socialization and academic development, often leading to addiction. However, many studies of the influence of video games have demonstrated various positive effects of gaming, such as the encouragement of teamwork and improvement of child’s cognitive functions, as the majority of games require good multitasking and problem-solving skills. On the contrary, video gaming has shown to be the popular occupation among the younger generation which allows children to socialize by creating groups with common interests. For the truth is, similar to any entertaining activities, playing video games should be in moderation. In fact, it is the responsibility of parents to supervise and control the time their child spends in from of the screen. In this essay, then, the examination of both negative and positive aspects of video games will demonstrate that such activity can be beneficial for children if they play in moderation.Exercise 1, pages 28-29Despite the fact that our experiments suggest that there are dangerous levels of chemical X in the Ohio groundwater, in a few decades, there have no complaints from the residents regarding the quality of drinking water. Some say that the belief in one’s ideology can cause a profound influence on the society. However, various historical examples prove that it is material forces that drive history. It is a common belief that rationality is the essential quality in decision making. On the other hand, proponents of Freudian psychology question standard notions of “rationality.” You would think that both girls and boys participate in class activities equally, but male students have demonstrated to often dominate class discussions.  Many people assume that the film only covers the issue of self-identity. However, the film is also about the problems of romantic relationships. Although templates like the ones in this book help organize students’ thoughts, I’m afraid that they will also stifle my creativity. Exercise 2, page 29 If ever there was an idea custom-made for a Jay Leno monologue, this was it: the lack of originality in the modern film industry. Isn’t that like the majority of mainstream Hollywood movies present the characters, plots, and ideas that have already been covered in the previous decades? Whatever happened to creativity, innovation, and desire to create inspirational and thought-provoking material, rather than a mere pursuit of profit? I happen to sympathize with the new generation of moviegoers, though, perhaps because the modern film industry has such an immense marketing power and promotional strategies, especially due to the popularity of social media, that today’s average moviegoer is not likely to be familiar with the extraordinary, unpopular films.
