In Classical times, it was the Palantine  hill  where  noblemen and noblewomen  of Rome lived and owned grand, rich houses. The English  word “palace ” takes its name from this hill. The city of Rome was founded on the  Palatine Hill, by the two sons of Mars, Romulus and Remus. Many temples and houses of  prominent citizens were built on this hill, this area became the city’s elite area  during the Roman Empire. Archaeologists had many discoveries, ranging from prehistoric remains to ruins of imperial palaces. For example, there are ruins of many generations of Rome’s emperors and a hippodrome or a stadium. Based on the Roman’s houses  that were  on Palatine Hill, the Romans valued wealth.
The Capitoline Hill was home to many significant buildings. For example, the Temple of Jupiter, The Temple of Juno, the Tabularium, and the Tarpeian Rock. At the notorious Tarpeian Rock, people who betrayed Ancient Rome were hurled to their deaths. This hill is the smallest among the seven hills of Rome. This hill was the site of many of Rome’s earliest fortresses .   The Capitoline  Hill was also like the hill  of  government. The infrastructures on Capitoline Hill reveal that religion and politics were important to the Romans.
The Esquiline hill is the modern area of modern Rome. Several small churches,  monuments, and the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore live on the hill. Again,  it appears that Romans valued religion.
The Avantine hill was associated with the plebs on Ancient Rome, and this area was originally outside the sacred boundary of the city.  In a myth, it was said that “while Romulus set up his augural tent on Palatine Hill, his brother Remus set up his on Avantine hill.”(Ingram) The Avantine hill was portrayed as hard working class area of Rome. Today, the Avantine hill is a luxurious residential district. This shows that the Romans valued how Rome looked and architecture was important.
The Quirinal hill was were the Sabines once lived and built their city. This is the hill that is dominated by Palazzo Del Quirinale. This palace is one of the largest in the world and the Pope was originally a resident. Palazzo Del Quirinale was one of the three official residences of the Italian President. People intrigued with art would head to the Palazzo Barberini. This shows that the Romans valued fine art.
The Caelian hill remains South of the Colosseum.  There are several remarkable churches located on this hill. For example, Santo Stefano Rotondo, Santi Giovanni e Paolo and Santi Quattro. There are ruins that show us the huge scale and elegance of the Roman imperial bath houses. There was evidence of intricately decorated villas and remarkable churches . This shows that Romans valued wealth, luxury, and nobility.
The Viminal Hill was in between the Esquiline and Quirinal Hills. This hill is the smallest among the other seven hills. It is know for having the Termini Train Station at its location. Baths of Diocletian give a reasonable impression of the vast scale of the Roman imperial bath houses
