Research Design This study utilized multiple case study design.
Case studies are good for describing and expanding the understanding of a phenomenon and are often used to study people and programs particularly in education (Stake, 1995). A case study can offer a refinement of understanding (Stake, 1995) of the context in which teachers care. “We take a particular case and come to know it well, not primarily as to how it is different from others but what it is, what it does” (Stakes, 1995, p. 8). This is done in part to be able to create thick description of a case in order to convey what the reader would have experienced if he or she had been present (Stake, 1995).
As opposed to other forms of research, case study places the researcher into the field in order to observe and record, “objectively what is happening but simultaneously examines its meaning and redirects observations to refine or substantiate those meanings” (Stake, 1995, p. 9). This focus on interpretation is fundamental and relies on data analysis as well as the researchers own understanding of his or her experience and the existing literature (Stake, 1995). The end result is a constructivist understanding of the cases. A multiple case study will be used in order to offer multiple perspectives on this topic. Interviews, observations, and surveys will be part of the research methods for this study. This also uses descriptive method of research that aims to show the effectiveness of the promotional strategies of Good Shepherd Cathedral School towards an increased student population. Garcia (2003) defines this as the type of research that endeavors to describe systematically, factually, accurately and objectively a situation, problem or phenomenon.
Punch (2000) describes it as a method that sets out to collect, organize and summarize the information being studied. To describe is to draw a picture of what happened, or of how things are proceeding, or of what a situation or person or event is or was like, or means, or how things are related to each other. It often involves summarizing specific factual information into empirical generalizations, or summarizing details of events, characteristics, cases or processes. It aims to study the growth of the student population of GSCS and how it was affected by its promotional strategies. The study also uses objective method of gathering data through the use of surveys. As a qualitative research, this study also aims to conduct interviews on the respondents of the study to measure the effectiveness of the said promotional strategies that will be then interpreted descriptively.
As a multiple case study, the main goal is to isolate different small study group, different cases of group of individuals will be subjected to the interviews to collect the data.
