The kingdom of Thailand is a unitary sovereign state and a developing country located inSoutheastern Asia. Thailand has a population of 68.4 million making it 20th most populous countryin the world.1 The healthcare infrastructure of Thailand is solid. Thailand is the maiden state inAsia to extrude mother to infant transmission of HIV and Syphilis.2 Our country understands thedispensation of an opulent sanitation system is must need for preventing communicable diseaseand ensuring the compatible health of refugees. The refugee crisis is one of the most crucial humanitarian crisis in the current world. At presentThailand hosts almost 100,000 refugees in nine refugee camps.3 Majority of the refugees are therefugees from Myanmar. Ensuring those refugees health and sanitation is always a tough challengefor the government. Thailand is giving its highest support to provide humanitarian assistance andensure the better health of the refugees that are currently living in Thailand. Thailand hasn’t ratifythe 1951 Refugee Convention or it’s 1967 protocol as it wouldn’t change Thailand’s long-standingethics in sheltering those who procure them anyway.4 Despite the efforts of Thai government toensure better healthcare services for refugees, the refugees have been facing some labyrinth. Thecharity of international donors has begun to dry up. Refugees in Thailand depend heavily on amonthly food distribution of rice and other required provisions. Pregnant women and children arethe most permeable in Thai refugee camps. Children often suffer from chronic malnutrition. Mostof the refugee camps are isolated in mountain, making them vulnerable to malaria, cholera, diarrhea etc. The refugees in Thailand also have access to poor water and sanitation ministration. The standard rations for grown-up as well as children have been degraded. In an oration at the Leader’s summit on Global Refugee Crisis on September 20, 2016, in NewYork, Prime Minister Prayuth committed the ascertainment of refugees returns to their respectivecountry would be deliberate and the enhancement of refugees ingress to education, birthregistration and healthcare in Thailand.5 Our Prime Minister Prayuth told in an interview,”Thailand’s defense ministry and security are preparing to receive various displaced people, wewill provide them with the shelter like in the past and send them back when they are ready.”6Thailand is collaborating with UNHCR, WHO and International NGOs to ensure better healthenvironment for refugees. Thailand is one of the parties of Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) leadby WHO which are making significant progress on eliminating malaria by the year of 2030.7Thailand took part in GA11820, WHA70/24 and WHA61/2008/REC/1.8 Our country agrees thatensuring proper health and sanitation mechanism is significant for creating better healthenvironment for refugees and our country would recommend:? To ensure more investment of rich countries, UN bodies and NGOs in refugee-hostingcommunities.? To establish the continued commitment to resettlement of refugees in third countries.? To provide good health education in refugee camps.? To adopt Thailand’s “Healthcare for all” as model health campaign to administer incountries worldwide.? To improve water and sanitation systems in refugee camps setting from exigency todurability.Reference:1. https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/th.html2. http://www.unaids.org/en/resources/presscentre/pressreleaseandstatementarchive/2016/june/20160607_Thailand3. https://www.unhcr.or.th/en4. https://www.humanrightsfirst.org/wp-content/uploads/pdf/Thailand5. https://www.hrw.org/news/2017/07/06/thailand-implement-commitments-protect-refugee-rights6. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-myanmar-rohingya-thailand/thailand-preparing-to-receive-those-fleeing-myanmar-violence-idUSKCN1B91647. http://apps.who.int/iris/bitstream/10665/259602/1/WHO-HTM-GMP-2017.23-eng8.
