W.E.B. Dubois believed that, ? The Negro race & # 8230 ; is traveling to be saved by its exceeding men. ? By this he meant that the most educated of the inkinesss will elate the race by giving back to the community. Dubois believed that these gifted inkinesss should be schooled in colleges and universities so that they may bring forth the leaders of the new coevals ; good rounded, educated inkinesss. This would so do a drip down consequence where the instruction of these few will reassign to the many.

Booker T. Washington has other thoughts for the black race. He thought that inkinesss should, ? Cast down [ their ] pails where [ they ] are & # 8230 ; ? Washington? s theory was that the race should research agribusiness, mechanics, commercialism, domestic service, and the professions. He believed that inkinesss should non be ashamed of common labour and businesss of life that they one time did because they would non thrive. If the black race would bury old grudges and aid the Whites everyone involved would thrive. The black and the white race would both flourish and benefit from the incorporate battle to break the Southern economic system.

Though the two work forces were both successful, their theories of the black race deriving a similar success conflicted in many ways. Where Washington believed the lone manner for a race to get down to thrive would be to get down at the underside of life, Dubois straight disagreed by stating there was ne’er a state that was civilized from the underside up. Dubois believed in educa

ting the most intelligent of the race to do the determinations for the remainder and so to educate them. Washington believed the manner to derive the needful power was to take over industry so work their manner upwards.

One other outstanding struggle between the two theories was the aid of the Whites in the battle to come on the black race and the South. Washington thought that assisting with industry would be in the best involvement of both races, so that both could profit if inkinesss ran the Fieldss, mills, and lands. Washington petitioned for the aid of the Whites, whereas Dubois thought that the Whites would merely go on to seek to destruct the attempts of black promotion. He believed that aid from Whites showed fainthearted via media.

Even though their thoughts for the black race were dissimilar, in the terminal, Dubois and Washington agreed on one of import issue: the spirit and strength of inkinesss. They knew the capablenesss of the black character and that they Whites would hold to recognize these strengths. Washington stressed this point best with his statement, ? About 16 million custodies will help you in drawing the burden upward, of they will draw against you the burden downward. ?
